Like A Local: Paris, France
LIKE A LOCAL
A common question that comes to my mind, and I'm sure yours as well, when I'm traveling is "what do the locals do?" I truly believe that everything and every place is worth seeing at least once. Whether it is something touristy or something off the beaten path, that something is special and more importantly new to you! There's so much we can learn by opening ourselves up to new adventures. So, of course, one of the best ways to do this is to live, explore, and experience a place "like a local"!
1. YOUR CITY'S NAME AND NICKNAMES
2. FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT
Tien Hiang: A vegan and vegetarian restaurant in the heart of the 10e arrondissement of Paris. They have dozens of yummy dishes for under €10.
Hank Vegan Burger: A vegan burger bar situated in the heart of le Marais. Burger, wedges and a drink (I recommend the Oh so Fair Cola) are €12. The restaurant also has a very delicious home made vegan mayo to go with your potato wedges.
Any Patisserie shop across the city! You can’t go to Paris and not try at least one of the tempting pastries (or, at the very least, a croissant)...
3. FAVORITE PLACES TO STUDY/DO WORK
In a Parisian café with an expresso (normally between €1.50 and €3). Just ask if they have WiFi (pronounced wee-fee) first!
4. FAVORITE PLACES TO RELAX/DETOX
There are dozens of ’secret' parks throughout the city where you can easily find a quiet spot to work or read. I love curling up on a bench in Parc Monceau or in Buttes Chaumont as they’re ‘less touristy’, quieter and where the real locals go!
5. FAVORITE PHOTO SPOT
This one’s easy! Trocadero (metro line 9) is easily my favourite place to take early morning photos. Head for sunrise and you’ll catch the sun rising up behind the Eiffel Tower (not a bad place to start the day)!
6. ONE “TOURISTY” THING IN EVERYONE ACTUALLY HAS TO VISIT
Okay, this is one of those ‘up there’ tourist things that’s in every top 10 list of Paris! But you really do have to go up the Arc de Triomphe! The views from the top are simply breathtaking and the architecture is incredibly pretty. If you’re under 26 and an EU citizen, you can go up the Arc de Triomphe for free.
7. ONE NOT SO WELL KNOWN SPOT PEOPLE SHOULD DEFINITELY VISIT
All of the vineyards throughout the city! I recently did some research for an article I wrote about the hidden vineyards around the city and it would surprise you just where exactly they’re located!
8. ONE UNIQUE FACT
There’s only one stop sign in the entire city centre of Paris!
9. ANY TIPS OR TRICKS ON HOW TO NAVIGATE YOUR CITY
Take the metro: it’s the best! The Metro in Paris is actually one of the oldest and most extensive in the World; it also happens to be one of the cheapest. If you purchase the ‘carnet’ at the ticket office, you’ll get ten trips (anywhere across Paris) for under €15.
10. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR CITY
There’s always something new to discover! Whether it be a museum exhibition, wandering around the city . There are also A LOT of day trips that can easily be taken from Paris using the transport system. Think fairytale castles, the final resting place of Van Gogh and where Monet painted...
