Like A Local: Orlando, Florida
LIKE A LOCAL
A common question that comes to my mind, and I'm sure yours as well, when I'm traveling is "what do the locals do?" I truly believe that everything and every place is worth seeing at least once. Whether it is something touristy or something off the beaten path, that something is special and more importantly new to you! There's so much we can learn by opening ourselves up to new adventures. So, of course, one of the best ways to do this is to live, explore, and experience a place "like a local"!
1. YOUR CITY'S NAME AND NICKNAMES
2. FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT
My favorite place to eat has to be Maggiano's. It is an Italian restaurant right on International Drive. The price range starts at about $15 for an entree. Now for dessert, there is this fun and unique place called Better than Sex. They offer playful desserts and drinks starting at about $8! Definitely a fun place for a Girl's night out or a date night with your significant other.
3. FAVORITE PLACES TO STUDY/DO WORK
My favorite spot to go to when I need a quiet place for work or to study would be Celebration Town Center. It's a small quiet community and has nice areas where you can sit and work on your tasks. I also like any local Starbucks.
4. FAVORITE PLACES TO RELAX/DETOX
To relax I am a fan of the Disney Resorts at night. You can sit by the lakes and pools and watch the fireworks go off on each of the theme parks. My favorite is Boardwalk.
5. FAVORITE PHOTO SPOT
My favorite spot would have to be Downtown Orlando. It has an edge to it that appeals to me. You can take pictures at a rooftop, by the very well known Lake Eola, or even by the railroads.
6. ONE “TOURISTY” THING IN EVERYONE ACTUALLY HAS TO VISIT
Everyone comes to Orlando to visit Mickey Mouse; Disney World of course! However, besides Disney, the new hot spot is International Drive. Minutes from Sea World and Universal Studios you have the strip filled with lots of restaurants and the new Coco Cola Orlando Eye. There are also shops, bars, and rides.
7. ONE NOT SO WELL KNOWN SPOT PEOPLE SHOULD DEFINITELY VISIT
One town that isn't so well know to tourists that I would recommend is Winter Park. It is a beautiful town to ride your bike around to look at local shops and grab brunch.
8. ONE UNIQUE FACT
Something unique about Orlando, or Florida in general is that it actually rains in "the sunshine state" during the summer almost every single afternoon. It can get ugly with thunderstorms and then be super sunny the next minute.
9. ANY TIPS OR TRICKS ON HOW TO NAVIGATE YOUR CITY
I suggest that anyone that comes to Orlando to definitely rent a car. Our train, Sun Rail, is still developing and won't take you to all the major attractions. I would also suggest to always have an umbrella and water bottles on you.
10. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR CITY
What I love the most about Orlando is the variety of things to do! We have a little bit of everything here for anyone's type of lifestyle. If you have children, we have Disney, Legoland, and the many other theme parks. If you're looking for a party environment you have Universal's Citywalk & Downtown Orlando. Beaches are only about an hour away with beautiful sights you can't miss on the way there.
